Believing he could have stopped Chao's assassin but hesitated, Cheng blames himself for his manager's death and vows to avenge him. Learning from Enlighter that the culprits likely have a powerful benefactor, Cheng concludes he must get stronger and publicly challenges E-Soul to a duel so he might absorb the latter's Trust Value; E-Soul is convinced to accept by his manager. Qing repeatedly tries to talk Cheng out of fighting E-Soul, but he refuses, causing the two to fall out. During the duel, Cheng initially cannot break through E-Soul's electromagnetic shielding. However, Rock helped Cheng devise a plan to make E-Soul drop his defenses: force him to use his signature move, Lightning Slash. With E-Soul's Trust Value plummeting due to an online campaign started by Rock, his manager convinced him to use Lightning Slash, but Cheng successfully counters it and subsequently kills the hero. Afterward, Cheng is now the sole "E-Soul", their combined Trust Values elevating him to the 6th-ranked hero, with Rock as his manager—unaware that Rock is the benefactor who orchestrated Pomelo's kidnapping and Chao's assassination to prop Cheng up.
