Rie shelters Yoshiki and Hikaru, explaining that impurities are spirits separated from the human world by a thin barrier and that Hikaru is drawing them in, much like her husband who returned from the dead as an impurity. Hikaru resolves to protect his home, with Yoshiki vowing to support him, while Tanaka’s impurity violently merges with him. Rie warns Hikaru that Yoshiki may lose his humanity if he keeps mixing, and after Yoshiki buries the real Hikaru, the two confront their feelings and reject the idea of Hikaru leaving for the mountain. Seeking answers, they visit Takeda, who reveals the Indo family caused the impurity curse, then transforms and attacks them before Tanaka intervenes—only to suddenly behead Hikaru, leaving Yoshiki holding the severed head as the entity leaks out.
