Papyrus and Teti, the pharaoh's daughter, are captured by the soldiers of the Libyan prince Tahar on the way to Thebes. The cunning Tahar uses the opportunity to blackmail the pharaoh. He demands that he abdicate if he wants to see his daughter alive again. However, with the help of Bebi, a Libyan boy, Papyrus and Teti manage to escape from Tahar's camp. On their way through the desert, they come across the sunbird phoenix, which faces a difficult battle. He asks Papyrus to temporarily lend him his eyesight so he can destroy the Serpent of Chaos. The fisher boy faces a difficult decision. If the Sunbird dies in battle, Papyrus will be blind forever...
