During an endless night, the monster approaches and recedes from the frigate. Confusion of the captain and the sailors. Willy Fog exchanges impressions with Ned Land. Obeying his captain, Ned Land launches his harpoon, which slips with a clang. Unexpectedly, the monster charges at them and the ship is wrecked in the dark. Willy Fog, Romy and Aronnax manage to cling to a tree. A few hours pass. Then Tico's unmistakable whistle is heard. Climbing on a strange metal plate, Rigodón and Tico await them, who have managed to save themselves from the shipwreck with the help of Ned Land.
