Relieved that their magical paradise was not a dream, Sara and Becky go down to the kitchen to start the fire and prepare breakfast to the delight of James and Molly. Molly brings Sara to the Headmistress, whose displeasure at paying Dr. Wild's fee costs Sara her instruction stipend for Ermengarde, Lottie, Susan, Penelope and Jane. Peter enlists his chimney-sweep friend, Jim, to sneak into the Seminary and appraise Sara's status. Once inside, he and Jim do not find Sara asleep in her attic bedroom...
