Their plans are foiled when Barney must report to his company's nurse who, after Fred fixes Barney's condition to make it look like he has a 312 degree fever, is alarmed enough to send him to the hospital. Fred pretends to be a doctor and give Barney "operation" to get Barney out of the hospital. After finally escaping from the hospital, it's discovered that the ball game was actually scheduled for that evening – not that afternoon, as the guys had thought – and that Barney's boss had tickets for Fred and Barney to go, but because Barney was "sick," he gave the tickets away to someone else.
