There, the Yamigumo family guard five souls housed in five vessels: Dragon, Tiger, Phoenix, Turtle and Griffin. Nami's grandfather gives her the family's sacred sword and she undergoes a trial where she has to face her own doubts and fears to determine if she qualifies to be the Yamigumo heir. She passes the test, and returns to the AMP with her long hair cut short.
