Unlike the other entries in the .hack series that focus on events inside The World, .hack//Liminality takes place entirely in the real world, running parallel to the events of the original PS2 games. The story follows several individuals—Mai Minase, Yuki Aihara, Junichiro Tokuoka, and Kyoko Tohno—who become involved in a conspiracy after players begin falling into comas while playing the game.
As they dig deeper, they uncover unsettling truths about the game’s developers, mysterious phenomena connecting the virtual and physical realms, and a shadowy organization pulling strings behind the scenes. Their investigation may hold the key to saving the comatose players—and possibly preventing a crisis that could affect the real world.
